Piilani Promenade a winning proposition

September 1, 2012
The Maui News

I agree with the July 13 Viewpoint asking for all of us to tone down the noise level when it comes to the Piilani Promenade.

From the response by many who do not live in Kihei, or who arrived in the last five years or so, one would think the developers were considering a nuclear power plant on the site.

Come on, it's a retail shopping center. It's not the largest in Hawaii, and it will be walkable with restaurants, trees, benches. It will be watered with nonpotable water and a gathering spot for community events.

Do you really want to have to drive to Kahului just to get a new pair of shoes or to find that special birthday present for your son or daughter?

The Piilani Promenade is a winning proposition. Ten years from now, few will remember the hubbub it caused among a certain crowd when it was proposed.
