My family supports the Piilani Promenade project in South Maui.
We have friends in the building trades who have been out of work for many months. This project will create hundreds of construction jobs and nearly 2,000 permanent jobs when built.
To us, that means being able to pay the rent, the mortgage, the car note, for groceries, school expenses, to buy clothes for the kids and afford health care.
For those fortunate enough to have a paid job as an anti-growth advocate or to be retired and on a teacher's pension, we congratulate you. You came to Maui to do good and you have done very well.
Now, please stand aside and give local people a chance to enjoy what you like to call "paradise" and we like to call "home."
