A letter of Aug. 24 misinterpreting my letter of Aug. 17 is typical of people who only see what they want to see. It was never expressed that Republicans where afraid of an African-American president, but the radical right-wing Tea Party.
What the letter did say was that Republicans continue to lie about and take no responsibility for this economy by blocking all attempts by the president to improve said economy. They do this at the peril of all American citizens. They don't care for them, they just want to derail this president. And they don't like people who see through this.
Does the letter writer actually believe that bigotry has miraculously disappeared because we have elected an African-American as president? It has just gone underground, but it is still there.
As for me writing about it, I'll quote a very wise man - Martin Luther King Jr.: "He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who perpetrates it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it."
I will not ignore it when I see it.
