On Aug. 25, my husband and I attended the no-kill conference in Wailuku.
We went because we have always been so saddened by the obscene number of companion animals that are put to death at our local shelter every year. The vast majority of these wonderful companions are killed simply because they don't have a place to call home, and because we humans have been historically brainwashed by poorly managed "humane" organizations into believing that euthanasia is an acceptable option.
It is not.
I believe that these innocent animals would agree that death is not an acceptable option. The guest speakers at this conference, through their combined knowledge (supported by undeniable statistics) and experience, convinced every one in attendance that Maui could become a no-kill community.
No more excuses. It's time for the killing to stop. It will take total commitment and lots of hard work, but there is an army of wonderful people on Maui ready to jump in and do whatever it takes.
Mahalo to 9th Life Hawaii for bringing this educational conference to Maui. More information can be found at NoKillAdvocacyCenter.org
