Here, here to an Aug. 22 letter writer for extolling the virtues of the state-of-the-art heart attack interdiction facilities at Maui Memorial Medical Center, and his recognition of the federal funding that made this possible.
The letter writer had the opportunity to see firsthand what most of us do not unless we need the emergency care.
It should be noted, however, that along with federal funds, the Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation raised significant funds from the community to support the new Heart & Vascular Center. The funds provided by the foundation helped to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and new facilities for the cardiovascular team. The result is a good example of private/public partnering for the benefit of the entire community.
