The article about inadequate applicant fees (The Maui News, Aug. 27) is typical of all analysis about government spending (costs) and fees or taxes nowadays. Why are rising taxes and fees always the same answer? How about reducing the costs of all government?
Our county taxes and expenses have gone up every year. How about modernizing the entire system. Bring it into the 21st century by reducing the costs and fees of all government. Don't always keep a mindset of solving this problem by raising costs, fees and taxes. After all, the applicants are mostly taxpayers, why can't they get things done?
Want a solution? Term limits.
How can each voting citizen accomplish this? Never vote for an incumbent again. Keep incumbents out of the governing process. New officeholders each time can accomplish proper taxing processes. This finally gets us to the 21st century
KISS - Keep it simple, stupid.
