Just out of curiosity's sake, how many of the five council members who voted to take Lipoa Point out of preservation status were also involved in the Wailea 670 fiasco a couple of years back? Didn't they also disregard the majority of South Maui residents' wishes back then too?
A few of their names sound familiar and they should be remembered for trying to turn West Maui into Honolulu. Hotel, condo and luxury estates construction do not make a sustainable economy, so don't any of you dare use this sorry excuse.
Pretty soon all the overdevelopment will simply be too much and all the visitor money will leave for Hawaii and Kauai because we killed the goose that laid the proverbial golden egg that the tourist economy is to us.
Lipoa Point and Honolua Bay should be preserved for the 99.5 percent of the people who live here on Maui full time and want to have free and unfettered access to one of Hawaii's natural wonders for themselves and their keiki.
Each and every waterman should write at least one letter to every one of these council members who are disregarding the greater good of the whole community to protect the financial interest of an elite few. Maybe an email for every day Honolua Bay gave you a beautiful experience this last year. It really needs us now, people, let's give back.
