Warriors begin season with sweep of Na Alii

The Kamehameha Schools Maui girls volleyball team, winner of the last eight Maui Interscholastic League Division I titles, opened its regular season Thursday night on track to keep the streak going, sweeping King Kekaulike at Na Alii's gym.

Anuhea Kaiaokamalie had 10 kills, nine digs and four aces to help lead the Warriors to the 25-20, 25-17, 25-10 victory.

Leimana Kane added eight kills and six aces, and Bobbi-Lin Kalama dished out 24 assists and also had four aces for Kamehameha.

Na Alii, who started their league slate with a five-set win over Baldwin on Tuesday, were led by Taylor Fernandez. The senior tallied eight kills, seven digs and two blocks. Kayla Uyesugi and Pua Borden each had nine digs, and Hiilei Mahuka-Kihewa and Sylvania Amor each added three kills for King Kekaulike (1-1).

* MAUI HIGH 3, ST. ANTHONY 1: At Kahului, Kuulei Wasserman put down 12 kills and also had five blocks, including two solo, to help the Division-I Sabers pull out a 25-20 18-25, 25-22, 25-16 exhibition victory over the D-II Trojans.

Michelle Weckwerth registered eight kills and three blocks, Suli Hifo added seven kills and four digs, and Mele Enamoto had 25 assists and three aces for Maui High, which starts its regular season Saturday at Kamehameha.

Statistics for St. Anthony, which opened with a sweep of Maui Prep on Wednesday, were not reported.
