The Navy will conduct another torpedo exercise next week off Maui, according to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
The announcement said "operational testing of exercise torpedoes" would be done Monday through Thursday "off the coast of Maui."
A Friday afternoon call to the center, located in Newport, R.I., went to a telephone answering machine. A message was left but went unreturned.
The Undersea Warfare Center will assist the Navy's Operational Test and Evaluation Force from Norfolk, Va., in the exercise, the announcement said.
Expended torpedoes will be recovered in the exercise area by Pearl Harbor-based vessels, it said. A fixed-wing aircraft will patrol the exercise area to ensure no marine mammals are in the area when torpedoes are released, it added.
Earlier this week, the Navy tested lightweight exercise torpedoes off Maui.
The warfare center's mission is to provide research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, undersea offensive and defensive weapons systems and countermeasures.
