100 Years Ago

1912 - Maui will be represented at the Annual Regatta of the Hawaiian Rowing Association, and it is up to the citizens of "God's Isle" to root for, and encourage as much as possible, the young athletes who are going to uphold our honor.

1962 - The restoration of historic Lahaina came one step nearer yesterday with the announcement of the formation of the Lahaina Restoration Foundation. The foundation believes the restoration of Lahaina will be of historical benefit to the public and to the state.

25 Years Ago

1987 -A group of Molokai residents will spend a month eating a diet similar to that of ancient Hawaiians in an attempt to prove it is more healthful than modern Hawaiian eating habits. The study will be supervised by Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.

10 Years Ago

2002 - The Sept. 11 attacks didn't affect Maui's economy as had been expected. Mike Boughton, the former head of the Maui Economic Board, says there was a big, fast drop, followed by a bounce back to nearly pre-September levels, and then business almost as usual.
