Respect needs to be shown when anthems played

September 9, 2012
The Maui News

After enjoying many Na Koa Ikaika baseball games this year, I've noticed that many adults and children barely stop what they are doing to honor both the U.S. and Hawaiian anthems being played before the games. Please stop what you are doing, keep quiet, face the flags and render the appropriate respect.

As an FYI for veterans and service members, in October 2008 U.S. Senate Bill 1877 was passed which allows veterans and service members not in uniform to render the military-style salute during the national anthem and the raising and lowering or passing of the flag.
