Mooers earns academic All-American honor
Baldwin High School senior Katrina Mooers was named a USA Water Polo Academic All-American on Wednesday.
Mooers, a member of Honolulu Water Polo, was last season's Maui Interscholastic League player of the year as a junior. The standout goalkeeper helped lead the Bears to an undefeated run through the MIL for their first-ever league title.
To qualify for the academic All-American honor, athletes needed at least a 3.6 GPA.

Hew records ace at Wailea Blue Course
Maui Country Club member Mia Hew made a hole-in-one at the Wailea Blue Course on Wednesday.
Hew used an 8-iron on the 117-yard 12th hole.
Her playing partners were Jan Teruya, Terri Secor and Jae Thompson.

Mendoza makes hole-in-one
Ronald Mendoza had an ace on Thursday at the Waiehu Municipal Golf Course.
Mendoza aced the 139-yard second hole with an 8-iron.
Witnesses were Ed Tamura, Fred Nomura and Pat Borge.
