Insanity is repeating the same mistakes expecting a different result. Considering Lipoa Point/Honolua and Olowalu, the gods (and Maui County Council) must be crazy. How else to explain the lifting of the preservation status at Lipoa in the shadow of the closing of the Residences at Kapalua, the foreclosure of luxury homes nearby at Plantation Estates and the closure of the village golf course in the middle of the resort? The Honolua area is a natural treasure that will be lost if this madness continues.
Ditto with the Olowalu development that has gone ahead behind the charade of hearings regarding the homes and shopping villages proposed. The heavy equipment is there clearing the location as the mindless greed continues. The Olowalu area is another natural treasure and the reef and ocean front will be lost forever if the following measures are not implemented. The park designation of the makai side of road needs to be secured in law. Drainage and ocean pollution measures as well.
Last, a rapid transit corridor from the airport to Kapalua and to Wailea must be designated now before development can deny this access.
I read that an environmental court has been touted by the Maui County Council. Wonderful. Will they prosecute themselves?
