HSTA and HGEA support Ing
Democratic House candidate Kaniela Ing is being endorsed by the Hawaii Government Employees Association and the Hawaii State Teachers Association, according to an announcement from the candidate.
Ing, 23, is seeking the South Maui House District 11 seat held by Republican Rep. George Fontaine. They will face each other in the Nov. 6 general election.
The HGEA has more than 30,000 state and county workers statewide, and the HSTA represents more than 13,500 teachers in the state, Ing's announcement said.
Fontaine gains endorsement
The Hawaii Chapter of the National Federation of Independent Businesses has endorsed Republican South Maui Rep. George Fontaine, according to an announcement from the candidate's campaign.
Fontaine is seeking a second two-year term to represent the House 11th District, which includes Kihei, Wailea and Makena. His opponent is Democrat Kaniela Ing.
Federation Hawaii Director Melissa Pavlicek said that Fontaine represents a "positive and proactive voice on behalf of Hawaii's small businesses," the announcement said.
