Original art from the Maui Jazz and Blues Festival will be on exhibition for one week starting today throughout the 2012 event at Napua Art Gallery, on the lobby level of the Grand Wailea.
So take a little extra time to view the art between jazz and blues sets on the grounds of the resort or before and after the shows (see calendar of events).
Paintings of jazz legends such as Les McCann and Delfeayo Marsalis will get you in the groove for music.

Meet the artist, Ruby Mazur, during an opening reception at Capische? in the Hotel Wailea from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening (see Side Orders, page 16, for more details).
For 30 years, Mazur's artistry has proven to be innovative and influential in galleries around the globe.
At the age of 21, Brooklyn born Mazur was hired as Art Director of Paramount Records, and within that first year he received a Grammy nomination for his design on the "Crow Foot" album cover. It was at this time that the music industry executives began to take notice of his artistic genius.
His outrageous, trend-setting designs have graced over 3,000 various album covers for the likes of Elton John, Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughn, Van Morrison, Jim Croce and B.B. King in addition to such movie sound tracks as "Love "Love Story," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "Malcolm X."
His most famous creation in the music venue was the mouth and tongue on the "Tumblin Dice" record for the Rolling Stones. Call 874-0510.

Maui Hands Gallery at 1169 Makawao Ave., present gourd artist Neola Caveny from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays in September.
"Come see Caveny in action as she creates artwork right in the gallery," says Maui Hands director-owner Panna Speas Cappelli.
"Caveny lives on an entirely solar powered tropical flower farm in Huelo. She trained and worked as a gemologist and jeweler for many years until she discovered a passion for working with gourds while she was learning to make ipu instrument as a student of hula."
Hui No'eau has picked Rich Richardson as the juror for its 2012 color-themed exhibition, "Infinite Blue." He's executive director of Hawaii Academy of Performing Arts, Chinatown Artists Lofts and The Arts at Marks Garage.
Receving day is Sept. 24 and the opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 5.
