Firefighter Ibarra to be honored at memorial

Maui County firefighter Duane Ibarra, who died Jan. 18 while at work at the Makawao Fire Station, will be among 154 firefighters honored at the 26th annual International Association of Fire Fighters Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Ceremony on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The names of the firefighters who died in the line of duty will be added to the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial. With the additional names, the memorial will have the names of 2,651 firefighters who have died since 1976.

Ibarra, a 50-year-old Pukalani resident, had been a firefighter for 20 years.

The memorial service will be streamed live online and can be viewed at www1.koaa.com/pages/live-stream-test-2.
