I have decided not to run in the special election for the Maui seat on the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, since Dain Kane has decided to throw his hat in the ring.
Ten years ago, I ran against the former Maui County Council chairman and came to know him as a fair and reasonable man. Dain is a man who will listen to both sides of an issue and make a common sense decision.
We would be fortunate to have such an experienced man represent the Native Hawaiian community, of which my wife is a member. I encourage everyone to support and vote for Dain Kane on Nov. 6.
