Souki’s return as House speaker would be welcome

September 14, 2012
The Maui News

Oh, I was excited to see the possibility of Joe Souki taking back the position of speaker of the House from Calvin Say (The Maui News, Aug. 31).

When Calvin declared no new taxes after passing the petroleum barrel tax, I knew he was just a slick politico.

Joe would be great to have back as he has good sense and is an honest man. Rare.

And to Shan Tsutsui, president of the Senate, on removing prayer from the Senate floor: Is there a reason for that? I was very disappointed to see a Maui boy remove prayer; what's with the war on religious expression?

All in all, this is not the party of Jack Kennedy or Jack Burns. Much more radical and lots less practical.
