In response to a Sept. 3 letter regarding Paul Ryan: This may be difficult, but try to imagine that you are a woman and were raped.
Your soul has been destroyed and now you are denied the choice to have an abortion. You are punished twice, through no fault of your own. You were raped and now you must carry the rapist's baby to term, perhaps even having to see him on a regular basis.
Ryan worked with the now-infamous Todd Akin to narrow the definition of rape and outlaw abortion even for rape victims. Once the insanity of "legitimate rape" was out in the open, Ryan shifted gears a bit. Now he's comfortable with Romney's exception to abortions in the case of rape or incest.
Ryan also co-sponsored the Sanctity of Human Life Act, which would have criminalized in-vitro fertilization by establishing that life begins at fertilization. Oddly enough, Romney's son Tagg became the father of twin boys thanks to IVF. If Ryan had his choice, Tagg would be a criminal by trying to have a baby with IVF.
Joe Biden, on the other hand, has been a staunch supporter of women's issues, most notably his support of the Violence Against Women Act, since at least 1994. I know my choice for "one heartbeat away from the presidency."
