I am very concerned about the Public Land Development Corp. As a candidate for state House in a busy election year, I am scratching my head as to why The Maui News has not written about it since the public hearing here on Aug. 24.
All islands have now spoken to the panel representatives that are deciding how the PLDC will conduct business, and nobody I have heard speak thinks it is a good idea.
Please help us understand why every legislator from Maui (except the one who was not there) voted for this new agency that is exempt from state and county regulations. Please help us understand why this prime example of crony capitalism in our state government passed with flying colors in a total of three legislative days through the House, Senate and the executive office.
If elected, I will vote to repeal Act 55, which created this poho (not pono) agency.
