As a four-year Kihei resident, I had much to learn about this fast-growing and complex community.
Attending public meetings led by Rep. George Fontaine was one of the ways.
Fontaine led meetings on major issues - homelessness, cybercrime, foreclosure reforms, animal protection, securing of the Kihei high school - as well as progressive Legislature reports. In addition, the "Fontaine Factor" televised on Akaku, on many of Hawaii's issues, revealed additional depth.
Fontaine's obvious mature focus, diligent leadership and active willingness to step out into the community for resolve is impressive. His active community actions demonstrated the importance of being a well-learned involved citizen.
This instilled, for me, a personal responsibility.
Of the first, I registered to vote.
Of the second, I will vote to re-elect Rep. George Fontaine as state House representative for South Maui District 11.
I truly respect Rep. Fontaine for his willingness, intelligence and obvious care for all residents of South Maui.
