Employment numbers show policies not working

September 15, 2012
The Maui News

On Sept. 6, President Barack Obama gave a forward speech basically claiming happy days are almost here again. On Sept. 7, the jobs report came out.

Massaged heavily, the report was designed by Obama's czar to create a headline that unemployment dropped from 8.3 to 8.1 percent and 96,000 jobs were created. Sure.

During his speech, Obama claimed he inherited a mess and for December 2008 750,000 jobs were lost. However, in that month about 180,000 entered the workforce, giving an overall negative of 570,000.

For last month, the number of employed actually dropped by 109,000, according to Table 1-A "Employment Status of the civilian population by sex and age." On top of this, according to the "not in workforce" line on the table, it jumped by 581,000. (Seasonally adjusted to 368,000.) This is a negative of 690,000.

Obama's policies are not working. Bureau of Labor Statistics data actually show the mess last month was worse than the one he faced entering office. (An example of major media power that this is not having a major reaction).

You want a revitalized USA, Obama is not the ticket.
