Police searching for possible hit and run vehicle

September 17, 2012
The Maui News

Maui Police are looking for a 1997 or 1998 Mitsubishi Galant that might have been involved in a hit and run fatal accident after a man's body was found in the middle of the Paia Bypass Road Sunday night, police said on Monday.

The vehicle will have front end damage and will be missing at least one of the black plastic grill pieces located above the front license plate.

Police are still trying to identify the man. Maui County Paramedics Association said the man was elderly.

Police said it appears he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling east on the Paia Bypass Road. The body was found around 8:16 p.m. Sunday.

This is Maui County's 19th traffic fatality of this year as compared to 12 at the same time last year, police said.

Anyone who has any information about the vehicle or the driver involved in the crash, contact Maui Crime Stoppers at 242-6966.
