David Paul's Island Grill has closed at its 900 Front St. location, according to an announcement.
The closure reportedly affects about two dozen employees.
Chef co-owner David Paul Johnson said he plans to open a small, bistro-style restaurant at a location on Maui sometime late this year or early next year. Further details were not available, although Johnson said gift certificates and awards will be honored by the new restaurant.
"I'm sincerely grateful to the staff and all our customers who have been so supportive of this restaurant," Johnson said in a news release. "Lahaina Center will soon be converted into an outlet mall, and we wish the new tenants much success."
Other restaurant tenants at the Lahaina Center include Ruth's Chris Steak House and Hard Rock Cafe.
