The people have chosen their favorite art piece at this year's Malama Wao Akua Art Exhibition. Since the opening of East Maui Watershed Partnership's annual art exhibition at Viewpoints Gallery in Makawao, art enthusiasts and the general public have been casting their votes for their favorite artwork. This year's winner is Chenta Laury, who used plant-dyed wool to create her piece titled, Pavona maldivensis Coral.

Other award winners include the following: Juror's Choice 2D: Gabrielle Anderman, East Maui Forest Songbirds 2012; Juror's Choice 3D: Jupiter Nielsen, Kilioe (Embelia Pacifica); Juror's Choice Photography: Gwen Arkin, Kaona; Keiki Division High School: Reece Murata, 'Uki 'uki; Keiki Division Middle School: Sarah Nassar, The Hawaiian Stilt; Keiki Division Elementary: Lillian Palmore, Lolu and Nanu; Conservation at Work: Joey Corcino, Affection; and Rarest Find: Zach Pezzillo, Mehamehame Diptych.

This year's jurors were Connie J. Adams, Maui artist; and Dr. Art Medeiros, USGS Research Biologist and Leeward Haleakala Restoration Project Technical Advisor.

Sargent's Fine Art at 802 Front St., in Lahaina will host acclaimed metal artist, Jack Nordby, from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday. Jack's love of the ocean comes alive in his metal etchings. Jennifer Valenzuela will be the artist in residence at Maui Hands Gallery, 612 Front St. Lahaina from 4 to 7 p.m. every Friday this month. She paints fantastical landscapes inspired by the shapes and colors of Maui.

"My paintings are whimsical and full of magic. I paint on panel in order to incorporate the natural organic beauty of the wood grain into my pieces. I am inspired by my environment, vintage paint by numbers, Japanese aesthetic and images of my youth."
