Payne bows out in third round of ASP event

Dusty Payne of Lahaina competes in the third round of the Association of Surfing Professionals’ Hurley Pro Trestles on Wednesday in San Clemente, Calif. — he lost 15.34-13.33 to top-ranked Mick Fanning of Australia, a two-time world champion. Payne earned $8,500 and an equal 13th-place finish, both season bests.
