Donated goods bolster ‘meager’ supplies

September 21, 2012
The Maui News
Feed My Sheep staffers Jerry Koyanagi (left) and Patrick Peterson unload donated pineapples they helped pick Wednesday along with volunteers from Waste Not Want Not. The pineapple will be part of food boxes distributed to about 1,500 Maui people in need today in Lahaina and on Saturday in Central Maui, Haiku and Kihei. Feed My Sheep Executive Director Joyce Kawakami said that while canned and dry goods supplies are a little “meager” right now, the boxes, which include local produce, are designed to help a family get through a tough week. “We try to give them a week’s worth of groceries,” the full-time, unpaid volunteer said. “I try to give them food I would serve to my own family.”
