FIRST PHOTO: Lanai students surround a Nissan Leaf electric car Friday morning after a dedication for Wailuku's first public charging station fronting the Old Wailuku Courthouse and the County Building. The students, with teacher Matt Glickstein, were honored for their award-winning music video "Every Day is Earth Day," which they performed on the courthouse steps.

SECOND PHOTO: As part of the dedication, Maui Electric Auto Association President Christine Andrews touches an RFID fob to a panel to activate Wailuku's first public charging station. Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa and Enterprise Rent-A-Car Manager Chad Itagaki prepare to plug an electric rental car in for a 20-minute charge. The station was dedicated as part of National Plug In Day. Andrews said the fobs can be obtained at the Maui County Business Resource Center at the Maui Mall for a $20 deposit. She said use of the county-sponsored electric charging station is free for now.
