The Baldwin High School girls bowling team remained unbeaten on Saturday, moving into position to clinch the Maui Interscholastic League championship when play resumes next month, and the Bears also stayed perfect the in boys competition.
Both teams defeated King Kekaulike 3-0 on Saturday at Maui Bowling Center in Wailuku.
The Maui High boys beat St. Anthony 2-1 despite a 215 by the Trojans' Chaz Fernandez, and in the girls competition, St. Anthony was a 3-0 winner over Maui High.
The Baldwin girls (15-0) can clinch the league championship with a sweep of Maui High on Oct. 4.
On Saturday, Janiesse Palafox had a 169 for the Bears, Brooke Higa had a 167 and Chelsea Kadokawa had a 158. Keanuenue Mahi had the top score for Na Alii (3-12), a 118. Aislinn Smith had a 110, and Levi English a 104.
Baldwin is seeking a third consecutive unbeaten league season.
Tyler Yamasaki had a 156 for the Baldwin boys (15-0), who can guarantee at least a tie for the MIL crown on Oct. 4. Reece Yokote had a 135 for the Bears, and Travis Andrade had a 129. Jeremy Chang had a 160 for King Kekaulike (0-15).
Trent Hori had a 178 for the Maui High boys (9-6), who entered a tie for second with St. Anthony. The Sabers' Colton Rishovd had a 160, and Codey Kuhaulua a 143. The Trojans got a 148 from Christian Altura-Taal and a 146 from Michael Fernandez.
Selina Williams' 134 was the top score for the St. Anthony girls (8-7). Sloan Becraft had a 130, and Estelle Rossman a 122. Stephanie Imada had a 134 for Maui High (5-10), Kara Oshiro had a 130 and Jessica Saki a 106.
