Mega-malls along Piilani Highway? Massive traffic disruptions? The north-south corridor? North Kihei flooding? No to all these overriding issues.
Well, then, how about where a candidate was born and how long the candidate has lived in South Maui? Yes and yes.
Those seem to be the two top issues for Tea Partier George Fontaine in his state House re-election campaign. Not that he's doing anything different than when he ran in 2008 and 2010. Two and four years ago, he engulfed South Maui voters with mailings pertaining to the personal life of his opponent rather than dealing with issues. Sure, George may be described by some folks as a nice guy, but that does not qualify him for public office.
Maybe, just maybe, Fontaine needs to fall back on public attacks simply because he has nothing else to offer.
Kaniela Ing won a hard-fought battle for the Democratic nomination and does offer us the opportunity to be represented in Honolulu by someone who can achieve results instead of insults.
