I was saddened to hear about Ed Tanji's passing (The Maui News, Sept. 13). I knew he'd been ill but that didn't soften the blow.
I have so much respect for Ed and his ideas. I never wanted to miss any of his articles because they were so thoughtful and researched and stretched my thinking in meaningful ways. And importantly, to me they were also suffused with kindness.
Talk about someone I would love to sit and have a beer with and just talk about all kinds of things. But it never happened and he always seemed pretty private so I never wanted to interfere.
So, Ed, you never knew how much I appreciated what you added to the fabric of Maui. I am sure there are other silent witnesses. We were lucky to have you.
