High-surf advisory issued through Monday morning

September 23, 2012
The Maui News

A high-surf advisory is in effect for the north-facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 a.m. Monday.

Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and away from the shore break due to hazardous wave action and strong rip currents, the National Weather Service said.

Swells generated by low pressure over the central North Pacific are expected to bring surf of 15 feet to 20 feet to most of the islands.

Pre-recorded advisories and notifications are available 24 hours a day on the Maui County Automated Information System by calling 986-1200. Information is also available at mauicounty.gov.

Weather broadcasts by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration cab be reached by calling (866) 944-5025.
