Applications for the 2013 Maui Master Gardener training are now available. The deadline to apply is Oct. 15.
The 16-week class will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays from Jan. 9 to April 24 at the Community Services Building at University of Hawaii Maui College.
Topics will include botany, soils, plant propagation, Hawaiian natives, common plant pests and diseases, weed management, pesticide and food safety, orchids and more.
In exchange for the training, graduates must volunteer a minimum of 50 hours to become certified master gardeners.
This University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service program is open to adults 18 years and older.
Cost is $120.
