Makai Mann of Makawao was named an Annika Rodriguez Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis. Mann, one of 18 Rodriguez Scholars selected this year, is a 2012 graduate of Kamehameha Schools Maui.

The scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students of exceptional academic merit who show commitment to community service and a demonstrated ability to bring diverse people together, according to a news release. The awards range from partial tuition to full tuition and a $2,500 stipend.

Scholars participate in the Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program throughout their four years at Washington University, including attending meetings, seminars and community service projects.

The scholarship is renewable for all four years of undergraduate academic study, dependent upon the student's satisfactory academic progress.
