Electing Ing would be fastest path to high school

September 27, 2012
The Maui News

I am thrilled at the prospect of Kaniela Ing becoming our representative in South Maui. A third-generation Maui boy, he left home for a higher education and then chose to come home to serve us. How wonderful.

One thing I know is that he is absolutely our fastest path to a high school in Kihei. George Fontaine not only failed to get the high school project started, he actually hindered the possibility, refusing to ask for the $20 million that former Rep. Joe Bertram and Sen. Roz Baker had previously secured for the project.

No matter if you are Republican or Democrat, we need to elect the best candidate for our community, someone who can actually partner with Baker and fund Kihei high school.

While I'm at it, Fontaine needs to stop attacking and spreading lies about Ing.

Fontaine is a Tea Party extremist who doesn't understand our values and aloha. With him, it's everybody on their own. This is just not right, we are all in this together.

The bottom line is that Fontaine has passed no laws to benefit South Maui nor has he brought home any dollars in capital improvement projects. This is the lowest level of achievement of any current legislator, Democrats and Republicans alike.

Please do what's best for South Maui and vote for Kaniela Ing on Nov. 6.
