The Maui News

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded in Wailuku crept up 1 cent from last week to $4.47 a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch released Thursday.

That price is 16 cents more than last month and 4 cents higher than last year.

Statewide, the average price paused at $4.41 a gallon, the same price as last week, 13 cents higher than last month and 18 cents higher than last year.

Honolulu's average price climbed to $4.37 a gallon for regular unleaded, a penny more than last week. In Hilo, the average gas price was $4.39 a gallon, a decrease of 3 cents from last week.

"The price of oil has dropped significantly in the past week," said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "But that drop-off hasn't yet made its way to the retail pumps on the Mainland or here."

AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch is a weekly snapshot of gas prices. Prices are derived from fleet vehicle credit card transactions at more than 100,000 stations around the country and are the combined averages of last card swipe of previous day.
