This year, the church has its own official office mascot, Davey, a dog rescued from the devastation of the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The dog's family was forced to evacuate its home after the Fukushima nuclear power plant was damaged during the disaster.
Animal rescue groups in Japan made it possible for Pauline Jennings, a relief volunteer from Maui and the church's parish administrator, to adopt the dog and bring him back to Maui.
