Blame GOP obstructionists, not Democratic Party

September 29, 2012
The Maui News

A Sept. 21 letter writer missed the mark.

It is not the Democratic Party that has cut its ties to 47 percent of the country.

It is not the Democratic Party that is courting the religious right, trying to turn this country into a theocracy.

It is not the Democratic Party that has bowed to the right-wing Tea Party and let hate come into the party.

It is not the Democratic Party that caters to the 1 percent of the population. By the way, there are rich Democrats and some of those do support Democrats but they normally are less rich than the billionaires supporting the Republicans.

We, Democrats, do not hate the rich.

Yes, this Democratic Party would not elect a John Fitzgerald Kennedy because Kennedy was elected while this country was coming out of influence of McCarthyism. You remember him, Joseph McCarthy, Republican. He had no plan to get out of a recession. President Barack Obama's plan is supported by a Noble prize-winning economist.

That being said, the saint Ronald Reagan would not get nominated from this Grand Old Party either.

Hope and change was not defeated by cronyism capitalism, lobbyists or outrageous spending, it was done in by the Republican obstructionists in the House and Senate at the cost of the American people. They have thrown the American people under the bus to try to defeat the president of the United States at all costs.
