A Sept. 21 letter writer explained to us lifelong Hawaii-born Democrats how we have changed. The letter writer should try to remember to whom she speaks.
Here in Hawaii (on Maui), we fought for our right to vote in 1946. We fought for our Constitution in 1953. We did not fight against a constitutional monarch. We fought against the Big Five (corporate) vulture capitalist (aka the Republican Party).
The GOP spoke to us like Mitt Romney and treated us like Linda Lingle, whose attacks on the Hawaii Government Employees Association caused economic ruin to the state's economy and hurt our keiki's education (furlough days).
Yes, we have changed: Ronald Reagan rid our party of the Dixie-crats. They're Republicans today and doing the same things they did to the Democrats back in the 1940s - choosing who can vote, taking away a woman's right to choose her fate and doing whatever it takes (in Congress) to make certain President Barack Obama fails.
I am glad the letter writer is no longer a Democrat. We are the party of the common American. I am very, very common. I am an American veteran of Vietnam, but more so of the battle for a constitution in the Territory of Hawaii against people like Romney, Lingle and the GOP.
If you need someone to love and respect the GOP, get a dog.
I am Roman Catholic. I would vote for John F. Kennedy, he was better a Catholic than me.
