Eva Papa'ikaniau Malie, 91, of San Lorenzo, California, died September 24, 2012, at Hayward Convalescent Hospital in Hayward, California.
Her funeral will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home in Hayward on October 5, 2012, at 10:00 AM, burial to follow.
Mrs. Malie was born July 21, 1921, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Emma Lyons and Herman Scholtz. She had three brothers: Herman, Freddy, and Stanley.
Eva was the lead singer for Eddie Malie and His Islanders on Maui and later in the Bay Area. She attended Sacred Hearts Academy and was raised in part by Rosalie Enos Keliinoi. She was a granddaughter of Carl Frederick Scholtz, Maui's first blacksmith, and Eunice Malaihi, a high chiefess from Waiehu who bore ten children on Maui.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward K. Malie, in 1998 and leaves four children, Marvalee Maile Mossman (Boyd), Edward K. Malie Jr. (Sharon), Matthew Malie, and Yolanda Nani Snell (Allen), thirteen grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
Her musical talents and homemaking skills were well appreciated by her family and all who knew her.
