I believe in the freedom of speech, and an opinion is just that. Please get your facts together before launching an all-out campaign against cane burning.
Not only cane burning causes lung damage. How many related causes are logged with the Health Department that breathing cane smoke was the cause of lung or heart damage? There are no medical records in the state of Hawaii claiming this. Where did people get their information? I don't know but they categorize it as smoke inhalation - it's a broad area. Enough smoke from a hibachi can give you lung damage. Protest against that - no more charcoal smoke. Why not? How about the No. 1 cause of lung damage - cigarettes? No sign-waving there, huh?
Who is next on the list?
Oh, yeah, don't forget mega-malls. Don't leave them out in the cold.
How many of those so-called signatures collected live on Maui? Bet they're mostly 65 and older out of the south side of Maui. All replants from the Mainland trying make Maui a retirement home for the elderly.
