Sabers stay in MIL title hunt

The Maui High School boys bowling team remained in contention for a Maui Interscholastic League championship by defeating Lahainaluna 3-0 on Saturday at Maui Bowling Center.

The Sabers (15-6) got a 175 from Trent Hori, while Colton Rishovd and Brendan Baker each had 174 games.

Maui High faces Baldwin next week, and will have to win at least two of three matches to retain its title hopes.

Jake Ryan had a 148 for the Lunas (4-14) on Saturday, Tyler Ihu had a 126 and Royce Rosenthal had a 117.

St. Anthony defeated King Kekaulike 3-0 in the other boys match.

Chaz Fernandez had a 183, the best score of the day, as the Trojans improved to 12-6. Christian Altura-Taal had a 168, and Michael Fernandez a 104. Na Alii (0-21) got a 178 from Jeremy Chang.

St. Anthony retained second place in the girls standings with a 3-0 win over King Kekaulike. Sloan Becraft had a 123 for the Trojans (11-7), Selina Wil-liams had a 120 and Rachael Lallo a 118. Marissa Godinez had a 119 for Na Alii (3-18), Levi English had a 107 and Aislinn Smith a 104.

The undefeated Baldwin girls team clinched a fourth straight MIL title on Thursday.

Lahainaluna entered third place by defeating Maui High 3-0. Terra Miller's 133 was the top score for the Lunas

(8-10). Kailiann Tuipulotu added a 124, and Marla Ito had a 110. The Sabers (8-13) got a 126 from Precious Texeira, and a 125 from Kara Oshiro.
