Due to the gross difference between claims made by Linda Lingle and Mazie Hirono in some of their ads, I decided to check the Internet for some facts.
Lingle has an ad that says Hirono missed over 120 votes this year. Hirono responds by saying she has made over 5,000 votes, Lingle knows it and should stop her personal attack ads.
Since when is pointing out a congressman's voting record a personal attack ad?
According to www.govtrack.us/congress/members/mazie_hirono/412200, from January 2007 to September 2012, Hirono missed 257 of 5,081 recorded or roll call votes, which is 5 percent. This is worse than the median of 2.5 percent.
OK, why are we talking apples and oranges? Lingle clearly said Hirono missed votes this year and Hirono throws in her whole record from 2007 on.
Again, according to govtrack.us, Hirono's voting record in 2012 leaves something to be desired. The first quarter isn't too bad. The second quarter is a bit worse, but look at the third quarter. Hirono missed over 78 percent of the votes called for.
Hirono is a far-left Democrat according to govtrack's analysis of bill sponsorship, and we don't need someone who is too far left representing us. We need someone who will be more bipartisan.
Now, thinking about the richest members of Congress, would it surprise you to know that of the top 10 richest members only three are Republicans (www.opensecrets.org/pfds/index.php)?
