Demonstrations of firefighting skills and rescue tactics will be part of fire prevention shows this month in Wailuku and Lahaina as part of Fire Prevention Week.
Sparky Dog and Smokey Bear, as well as a display of firetrucks and equipment including the Fire Department's Air One helicopter, will be part of the shows, which conclude with a "cooling off session" by the department's ladder truck.
The Wailuku show will be Friday at the horsehoe pit field at Keopuolani Park.
The Lahaina show will be Oct. 19 at the Lahaina Recreation Field by the Lahaina Acquatics Center.
Both shows are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The theme for Fire Prevention Week is "Have Two Ways Out!" and focuses on the importance of creating a home fire escape plan and practicing it.
Tips for making a plan include:
* Make a map of your home and mark a door or window that can be used to get out of every room.
* Choose a safe meeting place outside the home and include it on the plan.
* Have an adult sound the smoke alarm and practice the escape plan with everyone living in the home.
* Keep the escape plan on the refrigerator and practice it twice a year.
