Russell would work for positive change in House

October 9, 2012
The Maui News

I am so excited to finally have a candidate I can vote for with confidence instead of voting for the lesser of two evils.

Simon Russell is my candidate for District 13 state House of Representatives - East Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe. He is determined to work toward positive change in education and agriculture. He believes in promoting tax incentives for local farmers so we don't continue to pay more for local food than we do for imported food, due to the high cost of local farming. He will support more local control of our education system through local school boards. He thinks the Department of Education should be audited and held to a more fiscally responsible budget. Resolving these issues can only be in the best interest of our children.

He is opposed to and will vote to repeal Act 55 and the newly created Public Land Development Corp. that has just become law. This authorizes the privatization of state land by the state to fund itself. This is a massive conflict of interest. PLDC will smooth the way for the interisland undersea cable to power Oahu's energy needs with our resources. Ratepayers will be paying for this undersea cable. The state is also talking about taxing the pensions of seniors to help fund the deficit. Simon will work hard to repeal this fiasco and vote no to taxing senior pensions.

We are lucky to have this hardworking builder and farmer in the race. He deserves our support.
