The FBI in Honolulu is seeking the public's help in identifying a man suspected of child sexual exploitation who is believed to have lived on the Big Island between 2008 and 2010 and may still be living in the state.
The FBI became aware of the suspect in 2010 when a series of photographs surfaced on the Internet depicting the suspect apparently engaging in sexual acts with a girl and boy, believed to be approximately 4 and 9 years old, respectively, according to the FBI. The agency said the photos were circulated among illegal Internet forums for sharing child pornography.
Investigators from the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children enhanced one of the photos to develop an image of what appears to be a 2008 Hawaiian Telcom phone book for the Big Island in the background, according to the FBI. The image led investigators to believe the photos were taken between 2008 and 2010.
This man is wanted by the FBI in connection with suspected child sexual exploitation on the Big Island.
"We're comfortable saying that the suspect was probably on Hawaii's Big Island between 2008 and 2010," said Honolulu FBI Special Agent Tom Simon. "He may have lived there, or he may have been a guest in someone's home. For all we know, he may still be living in Hawaii."
The FBI said the suspect appears to be a white man in his 40s with brown-gray hair and blue eyes.
"Sadly, the FBI catches a lot of consumers and distributors of child pornography," Simon said. "This case is a rare opportunity for us to catch an actual producer of these disturbing images.
"The graphic pictures of the suspect performing sex acts on two young children are an absolute nightmare. The fact that he's still out there makes it even worse."
The FBI is encouraging people to use social media to spread the word about the suspect. Anyone with information on the suspect can call the FBI in Honolulu at (808) 566-4300.
"With help from the public, we are hoping that we can identify and catch this guy," Simon said.
