Romney shifts positions to wherever the votes are

October 10, 2012
The Maui News

How ya liking your candidate now, Tea Partyers? Just when you thought he had pandered his way into your hearts, Mitt Romney has dropped you the way he dropped 47 percent of Americans.

In the first debate, Romney pandered his way back to being a more moderate conservative than the right-wingers thought they were getting. This change was so abrupt it caught President Barack Obama off guard and left him prepared only to debate the previous no-show Romney.

What made anyone think the would-be panderer-in-chief was going to stick with his previous self when the polls show he was attractive only to those email forwarders too lazy to be informed. If Romney needs votes from the middle, he's going to position himself in the middle.

It makes you think, if he got the job, would he pander to leaders of other nations if he wants to be their friend? After all, he already has written off Middle East peace to get the Jewish vote at home, has practically declared war on China and criticized Obama for not having a crystal ball for the Bengazi murders, all to get the cowboy diplomacy vote.

As more nearly acceptable as this Romney may appear to be, his victory would still be a great boost to the building U.S. plutocracy approaching near total control over the nation's money.

And no doubt he would pander to the nut job Republicans in Congress who demand the president behave as a lunatic.
