Paia and Wailuku firefighters helped a 50-year-old Washington state woman who slipped and broke her lower right leg while hiking Tuesday on the Bamboo Forest Trail, according to Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
Firefighters responded to the 12:44 p.m. alarm and hiked approximately 300 yards into the trail near Hana and met the woman, Mainaga said. They splintered her broken leg, stabilized her on a backboard and carried her out to paramedics who took her to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Her injuries were not life-threatening, he said.
The victim and members of her family were visiting from Tacoma, Wash.
