Tips from the public have led to the identification of a man whose photo was released Tuesday in a suspected child sexual exploitation case, Honolulu FBI Special Agent Tom Simon said Wednesday.
In a news release Tuesday, the FBI sought the public's help in identifying the man, who was depicted in sexual acts with a girl and a boy in photographs that surfaced on the Internet, according to the FBI. Based on an image showing a 2008 Hawaiian Telcom phone book for the Big Island in the background, investigators said the suspect was believed to have lived on the Big island between 2008 and 2010.
With the identification of the suspect, "the FBI can now conduct a thorough investigation into the photos that prompted this inquiry," Simon said Wednesday.
"At this moment, there have been no charges filed or arrests made. If our investigation culminates in criminal charges, we will make an announcement at that time," he said.
The FBI previously said the photos of the man and children were circulated among illegal Internet forums for sharing child pornography.
