The Maui County Film Office is making it possible for residents' properties to have a starring role as a location for an upcoming movie or television production.
"Could your backyard double as a jungle in Vietnam? Is your grandmother's spooky old house the spitting image of the one from 'The Amityville Horror'? Do you have beautiful beachfront property that looks like . . . well, beautiful beachfront property?"
Those questions come from the film office's "casting call" for properties that could be used as silver-screen locations.
Residents interested in making their properties available may list them on the film office's website at www.filmmaui.com, then hit "Locations" and go to "Upload locations." There, residents may upload digital images of their properties and their contact information.
"Location scouts will be able to view the listing of the available film locations in Maui County from around the world," an announcement said. "If your property is chosen, you could collect location fees from movie and television productions."
"We promised that we would promote and stimulate the film industry here in Maui County and this is an important step," said Mayor Alan Arakawa. "This comprehensive database of crews, support services and locations is key, so let's show off the beauty and diversity of our islands by filling up our online library."
